Sorry, candy kids, but time is almost up for frolicking at Freedom in Tempe. The dance club institution is saying goodnight after its final blowout on Sunday, May 30, featuring the biggest DJ in the world, Paul Oakenfold. Oakey was there to play the first night of Freedom’s current incarnation, so it’s appropriate that the 40-year-old über-DJ and father of modern house music will be there to shut it down. In the interim period, every DJ worth a shit has played at Freedom. Tickets to see Oakenfold are $20, and can be purchased in advance at Swell Records. Doors open at 9 p.m.
If you can’t hold out until Sunday’s fete, you can catch San Francisco house impresario Kaskade at Freedom on Friday night, as well as a lounge set by Bombshelter DJs Radar and Emile. Kaskade is Ryan Raddon in the daylight hours, A&R director for OM Records, the label that just released his latest album, In the Moment, a few weeks ago. Doors open at 9 p.m.; admission is $5 before 10:30 p.m., $10 after.
