God bless the Internet.
The Information Superhighway has opened yawning new realms of possibility for the once-dispossessed, including the ability to make a living from breakfast meat. Not eating it. Not manufacturing it. Waxing rhapsodic about it.
Bacon is the niche that Heather Lauer has carved out for herself. The Phoenix-based pork princess is the go-to gal for all things related to porcine belly meat thanks to her four-year-old “Bacon Unwrapped” blog, a compendium of culinary and other news related to the crispy, heart-stopping delight (including swine flu, natch). The obvious next step for Lauer was writing a book, and she’s come up with what may be the bacon benchmark with her new Bacon: A Love Story — A Salty Survey of Everybody’s Favorite Meat.
Lauer discusses her adventures with bacon, and Changing Hands’ neighbbor, Wildflower Bread Company, breaks out some tasty fried-pork treats.
