Hodgie Jo is a dancin’ machine. He experimented with every style of dance from jazz to break-dancing before going on to choreograph events like the Super Bowl and Special Olympics. Now, Jo brings his artistic vision to the Imation Dance Company, as choreographer for World Beat, the troupe’s season opener on Friday, November 5, at Herberger Theater Center, 222 East Monroe. The production/cultural celebration includes 20 “eclectic tangos,” fused with elements of hip-hop, rock and New Age. “We mix the music with elements you’d see in a Cirque du Soleil show along with robotics and other movement sources to create something special and maybe even a little trashy,” Jo says. Percussionists Joe Garcia and Caribbean Zone add some eclectic drumming to the show. Tickets cost $33, $17 for students under 21. Call 602-252-8497. — Niki D’Andrea
