It’s not unusual to spot a long-haired hippie chick wearing a Boho gown and love beads in downtown Phoenix on a Saturday afternoon. See a throng of crazed map-wielding anachronists in flapper getups, ‘80s couture, and poodle skirts, however, and you might double-check your calendar to confirm it’s not Halloween.
That will be the scene when Yancy Martin Carlos Avery’s Time Travel Treasure Hunt challenges locals dressed in period attire to search for people and objects hidden in downtown art galleries, restaurants, bars and museums. Think of it like The Amazing Race meets Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
Participants pay $50 each to receive the fictional Avery’s treasure map, which contains clues to the scavenger hunt. The first individual or 2-person team that reaches the finish line at Lost Leaf with all of the requisite pictures snapped and checklists completed snags cash and prizes. Dudes and dudettes will have to “party on” via public transportation, as no cars are allowed on this trek.
Proceeds from the event benefit the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.
