Just because poseurs ride scooters doesn’t mean a Piaggio Vespa or Lambretti isn’t for you. Love them or hate them, it’s no accident that poverty-stricken Euro mods helped kick-start these tiny “wasps” into the forefront of fashion. Easy on the gas and delightful to maneuver, they eventually made their way across the pond, where America promptly labeled them any number of rough epithets, and the “scooterclub” was born.

Those still on the fence can check out Scooterfest, an event sponsored by New Times and featuring a scooter showcase, a scooter wash, live music, and demos by RideNow Powersports. Additionally, reps from Vespa of Chandler will answer questions like, “Aren’t smaller wheels dangerous?” and “What is a moped, then?” and “Can I drive it home now?” With a sleek new ride, you’ll be living la dolce vita.
