What legacy will you leave behind when you kick the bucket? A bestselling novel? A kid who will cure cancer? A YouTube video of you mangling Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” at karaoke night?

When Merce Cunningham passed away in 2009, he left behind a seventy-year legacy of professional choreography, including a dance company he founded in the ‘50s and the movements for over 1,000 individual works. Not wanting someone else in control of his choreography, Cunningham requested the company disband after he reached that great dance studio in the sky.

Catch the final local performance of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. The troupe will perform one of Cunningham’s “Events” – a site-specific performance work with stage decorations by Robert Rauschenberg and music from John King and Takehisa Kosugi. Cunningham described these events as “new sequences arranged for the particular performance and place, with the possibility of several separate activities happening at the same time.”
