The roster reads like a list of things you wouldn’t want to relate to: Heroes Dead and Gone, Obskurity, Coercion, Lifeless Embrace, Kill the Last Hour, And the Hero Fails, Learn to Suffer, Men Shall Fall, Fate to Fall, and Desolate Demise. But really, death comes sooner or later, so why not embrace it with screeching and growling, ominous power chords, and breakneck beats? We can all relate to the desire to break some shit every now and then. The beautiful thing about hardcore metal shows is the physical release — being suffocated in a pit of sweating, moshing fans. No matter what bullshit you’re dealing with at work, you won’t be thinking about it while dodging elbows and stage divers and trying to keep your ass from falling on the fluid-spattered floor in front of the stage. Given the philosophy of Heroes Dead and Gone (“Sometimes you gotta start a band so kids will kill each other at shows again”), this festival promises to be an exercise in survival. So have some brewskis and get brutal with some of the Valley’s most prolific pummelers.
