In a recent edition of his Week in Review video blog, comedian Carlos Mencia expressed shock and awe at the annual Easter reenactment of Jesus’ crucifixion by fanatical Filipinos.
The caustic and controversial comedian, who’s never one to back off from hot-button topics, jokingly (and ironically) channeled the frustration of the Christian messiah at their imitation of his sacrifice, exclaiming, “What are they doing taking my bit?!”
Mencia’s no stranger to tackling issues of religion and political correctness. As one of the most successful comics in the past decade, Mencia regularly slaughtered sacred cows during three seasons of his Comedy Central program Mind of Mencia. He’s also earned the reputation of being a joke thief amongst the comic world.
The comedian has built up a thick skin against his critics and accusers, however, and handles both with aplomb and humor, which bodes well for his upcoming gig at Stand Up Live.
