Today is Local News Day

There’s good news for those of us who can’t bear to wait to find out who won Best Lighting Design of a Musical or Best Scenic Design of a Play: ASU Gammage, in conjunction with Tony Award Productions, is presenting the Live Tony Viewing Party. The event, often called the Oscars of the theater, will be simulcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City starting at 5 p.m. local time. Here, however, the ceremony won’t air until later in the day on Channel 5.
But if you’re a Gammage-goer, you’ll get first peek at the advance telecast of the program and get to rubberneck the red carpet beginning at 4 p.m., long before local couch potatoes can catch Joan Rivers (or is it Star Jones?) enthusing about the ugly dresses worn by honorees. Local celebs will fill out Gammage Auditorium’s own red carpet and guests will be given the official Tony Awards Playbill as a souvenir.
