It’s all in the marketing.
We’re not that excited about some productions that claim to present authentic music from Africa and South America when all of the performing musicians are locals, but we were sold after reading about the Phoenix Symphony-presented Target World Music Festival, which features acts such as the African Children’s Choir, tango from Argentina, and The Band of the Irish Guards. Mostly because each act actually lives and creates in the country/continent that’s boasted in the group name.
The fest kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 14, at Symphony Hall with DeFalla’s Master Peter’s Puppet Show, a one-act opera featuring Basil Twist’s life-size puppets and singers from the Grammy Award-winning Phoenix Chorale chronicling the hijinks of Don Quixote.
