The closing reception for Phoenix’s creepiest gallery show also happens to be one of the most eclectic Halloween parties around. On Friday, October 31, Alwun House hosts Monsters’ Ball, a night of revelry to send the “Monsters’ Menagerie” art exhibition back to the grave.Mixed-media works by the dozen local artists in “Monsters’ Menagerie” — subtitled “the evil around us” — tap into the good-versus-evil rhetoric of “politicians and pandering partisans who prey on the under-privileged and ill-informed.”
But the night’s festivities venture into the more familiar haunts of an Alwun bash, with a trippy black-light juggling show by the Mysterious Manipulator, Halloween wedding vows by one of the exhibition’s artists, Robert X. Planet’s musical reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death, and dance music from DJ Black Sugar.
Doors open at 8 p.m. at Alwun House, 1204 East Roosevelt. Tickets are $7. Call 602-253-7887.– Michele Laudig
