Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve Harrison has just confirmed that DPS computers have been hacked by the Internet pirates and keyboard anarchists of LulzSec.
(Currently, AZDPS.gov is down.)
LulzSec, which stands for “Lulz Security” (Lulz being a slang version of LOL, “Laughng Out Loud,” or doing something just for kicks), posted a statement to its Website today announcing that it was “releasing hundreds of private intelligence bulletins, training manuals, personal email correspondence” as well as the “names, phone numbers, addresses and passwords belonging to Arizona law enforcement.”
LulzSec goes on to say that, “we are targeting AZDPS specifically because we are against [Senate Bill 1070] and the racial profiling anti-immigrant police state that is Arizona.”

The press release links to a torrent of info, which anyone can access via the site. this is titled, humorously, “Chinga La Migra,” or “Fuck the Border Patrol.”
Asked if the hacking of DPS computers was unprecedented, Harrison said, “I’ve never heard of it before.”
He added that the swiped material “does not appear to be anything that would compromise ongoing investigations.”
But Harrison said DPS is concerned for the safety of its officers as their names, addresses and other information are included in the data dump.
“We’re trying to track down whoever did it and secure our system,” Harrison explained. “Right now we think they got into our computers through our e-mail.”
Harrison also said that “multiple state and federal laws” were broken by the hackers involved. As for their stated claim of being anti-SB 1070, Harrison pointed out that 1070 is currently tied up in the courts.
“No one is enforcing [1070] right now,” he claimed.
Heretofore, LulzSec has hacked Fox.com and PBS.org. The home page of its Web site features an image of a sailing vessel with audio to the theme from the old TV show Love Boat.
Though I’ve yet to download all the info available, color me impressed with LulzSec’s daring cyber attack on DPS, and the subsequent data dump.
Wonder who or what LulzSec will go after next? State Senate President Russell Pearce’s e-mails, perhaps? Or the office of U.S. Senator and bigot-boy John McCain?
Oh, that would be terrible, just terrible…Especially were it McCain.
