Certain ingredients always tempt me to order a certain way, but sometimes it’s just pure curiosity that makes me order a dish.

The brunch menu at Fez, available Saturdays and Sundays, has an omelette called “The Best Egg White Omelette You’ll Ever Have,” and as soon as I saw it, I thought it sounded like a challenge. You just can’t call it that without really bringing something great to the plate.

It’s not b.s., though — I love this thing. In fact, I can’t go to Fez for brunch anymore without ordering it. It’s stuffed with spinach, tomatoes, and melted provolone, and topped with lots of avocado. The spicy harissa version is just fiery enough to jolt me out of any hangover. And there’s a scrumptious salad on the side. (Salad for breakfast? Definitely.)

The frittata’s pretty tasty as well, filled with onion, roasted red peppers, artichokes, and feta — a good choice if you crave something savory in the a.m.

Usually the French toast here is also excellent, but this past weekend, they sent out an oddly spongy version that lacked that nice golden brown crispiness around the edges. I think someone was rushed in the kitchen. Our waiter, however, was completely gracious when he asked how it was and we sheepishly admitted it was pretty ehh. Next thing you know, he brought the bill, minus the French toast.

Oh yes, we’ll be back.
