Number 89: Chicken & Waffles from Lo-Lo’s
Comfort food does not get any more, well, comforting than a plate full of hot, golden waffles and some crispy hunks of fried chicken from Lo-Lo’s.
Owner Larry “Lo-Lo” White has built his own micro-empire — a legendary spot just south of downtown, and a newer branch for hungry Scottsdale denizens — around the impeccable reputation of his fried chicken. Although the greens, grits, catfish, red velvet cake, and other soulful dishes are consistently delicious, the chicken is obsession-worthy. Naturally, his perfectly seasoned coating is a trade secret, but it’s not a stretch to say that magic is one of the ingredients. This stuff has the power to turn a bad mood into barely contained glee.
Even Charles Barkley would agree.
