I usually snark it up on this blog but if I were to make wise cracks about this very serious disease, you could classify me as pure evil.
Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, along with Banner Health, is hosting “Arts Engagement”, a series of workshops for individuals with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Participants engage in specially designed tours and hands-on art activities designed to promote learning and camaraderie.
There are still a few spots available for the spring session which takes place every other Wednesday from February 3 through April 7 (register by calling 480-874-4641).
And if you call quick, you might be able to register for free.

After witnessing how beneficial the program has been, a few kind-hearted docents from SMoCA anonymously donated money towards the program. Now, the first eight couples (caretakers are, of course, welcome to accompany participants) to enroll will be able to participate for free.
I just got word from SMoCA that there are just a couple free spots left.
After that, the program costs $100 per couple. The fee covers all materials and a one-year membership to the museum.
That seems a bit pricey, sure. But if the docents’ willingness to ensure the program’s continuation is any indication, it sounds like the experience is well worth the cost.
