It’s about time Phoenix sees some serious mural love. In the interest of giving credit to their artists and because we’re losing track of the times we’ve said, “Woah, when did that go up?”, we bring you Mural City, a series on the murals springing up around town — their artists, their hosts and their inspirations.

DOSE and Hector Ruiz are a busy painting duo these days.

If you didn’t spot DOSE while he was working the mural at St. Francis (pictured above), you might have seen his bold, bubbly signature grace the murals he’s done on (the now-closed) Verde, behind Barrio Cafe, and the mural he’s currently finishing up on the side of Deportes America with Gennaro Garcia.

Ruiz has been running a similar schedule in the gallery circuit and has been helping a few of his friends (DOSE and Garcia included) on mural projects around Phoenix.

The two were approached by St. Francis owner, Aaron Chamberlin,
who wanted the two to collaborate on a large-scale project for the
restaurant’s second floor. The result’s a bright collage of spray paint
and acrylic in the shapes of clouds, anatomical cows, and overlapping
patterns and signatures.

The mural was unveiled last Friday — read more about the mural and St. Frances over on our foodie sister blog, Chow Bella.
