Blackberry CEO Jim Balsillie’s bid to buy the Phoenix Coyotes now has some competition: Las Vegas-based businessman John Breslow, who owns 3 percent of the franchise, says he has built a syndicate to purchase the Coyotes and keep them in Glendale.
Breslow made a fortune in his family’s welding business, and served as state auditor for eight years in Nebraska, where he was also a candidate for governor in 1998. Breslow filed a statement supporting the National Hockey League’s attempt to block the sale of the Coyotes at auction.
Rumors have surfaced that Coyotes Coach Wayne Gretzky is part of Breslow’s group, but Breslow’s attorney has declined to comment on those reports.
If he’s able to purchase the team, Breslow asserts he has no interest in moving the Coyotes out of Glendale
