A Pinal County mom let her 14-year-old son use her car to go joyriding with a group of friends, and it didn’t go well — he crashed the car, and a fence pole impaled the him and one of his friends.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Griselda R. Figueroa let her son, and his four friends, take her 1999 Chrysler LHS for a spin Saturday night.

The ride came to an end near the 6300 block of (the ironically named) South Iron Bar Road in Eloy, where the boy lost control of the car and hit a fence.

During the accident, a metal fence pole went through the front of the car and impaled the driver and the rear-seat, driver-side passenger.

Just so we’re clear, that means the pole went through the front of the car, through a 14-year-old, through the seat, and through another boy.

Medics responded and took the injured teens to St. Joseph’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office says the two are fortunate to be alive.

“Had the vehicle impacted the metal fence pole only inches more toward the center of the vehicle, both juveniles would have undoubtedly been instantly killed,” the sheriff’s office says in a press release.
