Kendrick Lamar, SZA and a truly impressive amount of pyrotechnics lit up State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Tuesday night, when the superstars brought their Grand National Tour to the Valley.
The artists took turns appearing onstage for the most part, but also performed a number of songs together.
Though each artist had a different aesthetic – Lamar’s sets were dark, sharp and rooted in urban iconography like cars, graffiti and neighborhoods, while SZA’s visuals trended toward flowers, forests and insects such as ants and butterflies – what they had in common was the depth of their catalog and the number of hits they thrilled the crowd with.
