Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived.
The lives of the six wives of Henry VIII fascinated people for centuries before “Six,” the colorful, high-energy musical about the queens hit Broadway in 2021.
Reimagining the women as funny, free-thinking individuals instead of pawns on Henry’s chessboard, “Six” opens today at ASU Gammage. It runs March 17 to 22.
Ticket prices aren’t too astronomical, but most of the limited seats remaining are over $100.
However, ASU Gammage is offering a “Six” ticket lottery for the run of the show that allows winners to buy tickets for just $33 each.
Here’s how it works:
Get to the box office two and a half hours before the show. Fill out an entry card and note whether you want one or two tickets. Two hours before curtain, names will be drawn at random for a limited number of $33 tickets. Winners must be present at the time of the drawing and present a valid photo ID to purchase tickets. Limit one entry per person and two tickets per winner per day. Tickets are subject to availability.
“Six” showtimes at ASU Gammage are:
- 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17
- 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18
- 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19
- 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 20
- 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21
- 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, March 22
“Six” premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017. It spent the next four years touring the U.K., playing in London’s West End and on cruise ships and in Australia.
The musical was scheduled to premiere on Broadway on March 12, 2020, the same day that theaters closed down due to COVID-19. It officially opened in October 2021. The U.S. tour began in 2022.
It was nominated for eight Tony Awards in 2022, and won two: Best Original Score and Best Costume Design in a Musical.
ASU Gammage is located at 1200 S. Forest Ave., Tempe. Call 480-965-3434 or visit the Gammage website for tickets and information.
