When we last put the spotlight on 100 creative forces in Phoenix, it was no secret there were more than 100 individuals who were making waves in the local arts community. So as we count down to our annual Best of Phoenix issue, we’re profiling 100 more. Welcome (back) to 100 Creatives

Ruben Galicia‘s not afraid to use a little (or a lot) of color.

The local painter was born and raised in Mexico City and moved to the United States in the late 80s. He says his artwork is a reflection of contemporary Mexican and Southwestern culture through bright colors and bold patterns.

His work is on display with XICO and CALACA Latino Cultural Arts collectives and at the University Club of Phoenix.

I came to Phoenix with . . . my mom and my brothers and sisters in 1988.

I make art because . . . I always wanted to do or make something with my hands, and one day, 13 years ago, I discovered that painting was my passion.

I’m most productive when . . . my mind is in peace.

My inspiration wall is full of . . . the colors of our latino culture and the art of our ancient cultures and its symbolisms and also our history.

Good work should always . . . be made with love and passion.

The Phoenix creative scene could use . . . more support from the city and the private sector.
