The man and tribe behind the Geronimo legacy come to life this month at The Heard Museum. Curators have gathered objects for “Beyond Geronimo: The Apache Experience” from Heard’s collection and from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and National Museum of the American Indian, other institutions, and a few private lenders.

On view through January 2013, the exhibit takes a closer look at the medicine man-turned-warrior’s personal life, exploring his iconic status while a prisoner of war.

Mondays-Saturdays, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sundays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Feb. 27. Continues through Jan. 20, 2012
