Glendale’s new Dick’s House of Sport is the kind of place hardcore jocks and weekend warriors would love. Die-hard sports fanatics, memorabilia collectors and casual fans can get their fix, too. The sprawling retail and entertainment concept near State Farm Stadium is equal parts sporting goods store on steroids and full-on playground.

Plus, thrills of the rock-climbing, bat-swinging and track-running variety await inside, courtesy of its immersive and interactive in-store experiences.

Dick’s House of Sport in Glendale opened in October. Part of the Dick’s Sporting Goods chain, the two-level, 100,000-square-foot store is packed with gear and apparel. Essentials from a multitude of jockish and outdoorsy pursuits fill both floors: football, basketball and baseball. Hiking and biking. Soccer and lacrosse.

There are also rows of running shoes, an arsenal of pickleball paddles and tennis racquets and shelves of local pro-team merch. An entire section is devoted to sports collectibles, from cards to figurines.

If that doesn’t get your adrenaline going, buckle up. Large-scale photos of hallowed Valley stadiums like Chase Field and Mortgage Matchup Center loom overhead. The sound system blasts jock jams like Queen’s “We Are the Champions” nonstop, amping up the peak sports-nerd energy.

The real fun? The House of Sport’s various interactive experiences, where seasoned athletes sharpen skills and casuals feel like true ballers.

Elsewhere, a multi-sport HitTrax cage tracks baseball, softball, soccer, and lacrosse shots with real-time analytics. Outside, a turf field lets you play touch football or lawn games, with a running track circling it if you want to channel Usain Bolt, minus the insane speed.

Glendale is already home turf for sports-and-entertainment mashups like nearby spots Topgolf and Andretti Indoor Karting & Games. In other words, Dick’s House of Sport fits the area like a steamed glove.
