The Phoenix Brides of March returns Saturday when a roving horde in thrift-store wedding gowns invades downtown Phoenix for a wild bar crawl.

During the Phoenix Brides of March, participants don veils and thrift-store bridal wear, hop the Valley Metro light rail and hit bars like Charlie’s Phoenix, Kobalt Bar, Sazerac, Crybabys and The Pemberton.

The event is free and organized by the Arizona Cacophony Society, the prank-loving collective behind some of the Valley’s strangest happenings. Anyone 21 or older can participate. People of any gender identity or sexual orientation are welcome.

Expect thrift-store couture, a high-heel race and plenty of chaotic fun as the mobile bridal party hits each stop. Here’s how the Phoenix Brides of March works, where to score a dress and how to join the wild downtown bar crawl.

The Phoenix Brides of March bar crawl takes place Saturday, March 14, in downtown Phoenix.

Participants gather at Charlie’s Phoenix, 727 W. Camelback Road, starting at noon. The crawl will spend 60 to 90 minutes at each bar with about 30 minutes set aside for light rail travel between stops.

Here’s the complete schedule of Phoenix bars Brides of March on Saturday:

  • Noon to 2 p.m.: Charlie’s Phoenix, 727 W. Camelback Road
  • 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Kobalt Bar, 3110 N. Central Ave., #175
  • 3:45 to 5:20 p.m.: Sazerac, 821 N. Second St.
  • 5:25 to 7 p.m.: Cry Baby, 818 N. First St.
  • 7 to 8 p.m.: The Pemberton, 1121 N. Second St.

How much is Brides of March?

Joining the Phoenix Brides of March bar crawl is free. Bars along the route will not charge a cover, but participants must pay for their own drinks. Some stops may offer drink specials.

Valley Metro Rail is $2 per ride or $4 for an all-day pass.

Are wedding dresses mandatory?

Yes. Wedding dresses are required to participate in the Phoenix Brides of March bar crawl. Bridesmaids and groomsmen costumes aren’t allowed.

Participants are encouraged to donate cash and nonperishable food items to support St. Mary’s Food Bank. A drop-off location will be available at Charlie’s. Each person who brings a full bag of food will receive a penny drink ticket and one entry into a prize raffle for a Betsy Johnson purse at 1 p.m.
