Crafty types are about to have fewer places to purchase supplies in metro Phoenix.

On Friday, the assets of the Joann craft store chain were sold as part of its ongoing bankruptcy. A company called GA Group emerged as the winning bidder and plans to liquidate all of Joann's assets.

This means that the 82-year-old crafting supply company will close all of its stores, including 10 in metro Phoenix, and go out of business.

A statement on the Joann Restructuring website reads, "We have been proud to serve as a destination for creativity for more than 80 years and thank our dedicated team members, customers and communities across the nation for their decades of support."

This follows news from Feb. 13, when Joann released a statement that it intended to close more than 500 stores in 49 states. The company filed for bankruptcy in January, and in the filed paperwork was a list of locations it intends to shutter.

The six stores in metro Phoenix that were already scheduled to close and are already in the process of going-out-of-business sales are:
  • 1717 N. Dysart Road, Avondale
  • 825 N. Dobson Road, Mesa
  • 3049 E. Indian School Road
  • 5021 E. Ray Road
  • 21001 N. Tatum Blvd.
  • 21238 S. Ellsworth Loop Road, Queen Creek

The Joann locations that are now added to the closure list are:
  • 2753 S. Market St., Gilbert
  • 965 S. Gilbert Road, Mesa
  • 6136 E. Main St., Mesa
  • 8195 W. Bell Road Ste M-3, Peoria

Additional information from the Joann Restructuring website: Pending final court approval of the sale this week, the newly affected stores are expected to begin going-out-of-business sales immediately. Gift cards are no longer being sold, and already purchased gift cards can be used in-store, but not on the Joann website, through Feb. 28. Any dates for store closures or changes to the website and app will be communicated as soon as possible.

Other Arizona locations that are scheduled to close are located in Bullhead City, Casa Grande, Flagstaff, Green Valley, Prescott and Tucson.
