Silly themed bar crawls abound in the Valley, and they're usually pretty fun, a way to add an extra dimension of entertainment to a day or night out on the town.

The latest offering is the "Dress Like a Dad" bar crawl, presented by the Downtown Mesa Association on Saturday, June 14.

Attendees are invited to dress in their best "dad" attire: Think socks with sandals, cargo shorts, fanny packs, fishing shirts and clunky white sneakers.

"The Downtown Mesa Association is always looking for fun ways to engage our community and support the small, locally owned businesses," said an association spokesperson. Summer months tend to be slower, so the event "is a way to encourage people to come out, dress up, support local and have fun."

Drinkers can check in for the self-guided bar crawl from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 12 West Brewing. The event officially kicks off at 2 p.m.

Crawlers can take advantage of $5 drink specials at a dozen participating bars in the area:
  • 12 West Brewing: $5 10-ounce pours and $5 Cotton Candy Sangria
  • B.R.I. Taproom & Arcade: $5 Dad Shorts (House Margarita)
  • The Boutique: $5 Noble Mick’s Single Serve Craft Cocktail Mixers
  • Chupacabra Taproom: $5 draft beers
  • Cider Corps: $5 Dad's Arnold Palmer
  • Level 1 Arcade Bar: $5 Spike the Night cocktails
  • Margaritas Fresh Cocina: $5 house margaritas and $3 12-ounce draft beers
  • Oro Brewing Company: $5 bartender's choice
  • Outcast Doughnuts: $5 Hoochie Daddy shots
  • Pedal Haus Biergarten: $5 New Balance cocktails
  • Phantom Fox Beer Company: $5 draft beers
  • The Sacred Pint: $5 select 16-ounce pours
In addition to having fun and looking awesome, attendees can win prizes and support a local nonprofit. For every $5 donated to the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center, bar crawlers get one entry into a raffle for Downtown Mesa gift cards and merch. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to SARRC.

Cost to attend the bar crawl is $17, or $15 if you buy four or more tickets at once.
