The Valley is about to get a little less colorful.
The Crayola Experience, a southeast Valley attraction, will close for good on Sunday, June 15.
Opened in May 2019 at the Chandler Fashion Center shopping mall, the Crayola Experience was one of five such attractions throughout the U.S. Designed for children under 10, the Crayola Experience offered a wide range of creative activities, such as craft projects, games, mining simulations, designing crayon wraps and coloring pages and more. There were also snacks for purchase, a photobooth and visits from people in crayon costumes.
Crayola announced the Chandler closure in May. A spokesperson told AZFamily that the closure was due to the property's smaller size; the company used the Arizona location as a way to test how a smaller footprint would fare.
“This was a difficult decision to make, given the impact to our team members, customers and community we serve in Chandler,” the company said in a statement to AZFamily.
The 20,000-square-foot attraction opened in 2019, smaller than other locations so the company could test “a new compact operating model.” However, officials said that the smaller business format was not sustainable, citing current performance and a “challenging economic climate,” according to the statement.
The Chandler Crayola Experience is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through June 15. The store is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Currently, all merchandise is 70 percent off.
Customers who have tickets they won't be able to use before June 15 and annual passholders can email [email protected] for further assistance.
The four remaining Crayola Experiences in the U.S. are located in Easton, Pennsylvania; Orlando, Florida; Mall of America, Bloomington, Minnesota; and Plano, Texas.
