West Valley clubgoers now have one less place where they can get their drink and dance on, as Hurricane Bay Nightclub apparently is no longer in business. And we use the word "apparently" because for all intents and purposes, it appears that the North Phoenix nightspot shuttered within the past few weeks.

Although no announcement was made and the exact date of its closure is unknown, Hurricane Bay's shows all the hallmarks of a D.O.A. establishment. Not only has its website been disabled, but the joint's phone number has been disconnected and its Facebook page has also disappeared.
Looks as though it's now more of a permanent situation and not just on Friday nights.
We also chatted up a few shopkeepers at businesses that share the strip mall where the club is located, near Bell Road and 43rd Avenue. They mentioned that the place has been dark during recent weekends. It is unknown what circumstances led to the closure.
Hurricane Bay had been around for more than a decade and originally started out as a beach-themed bar and dance spot that also featured an attached karaoke showlounge called Solo's (later known as the Rock Star Bar).

In more recent years, the cavernous club underwent a makeover that added more posh and danceteria-like elements (including VIP cabanas, premium cocktails, and a Saturday Night Fever-style lighted dance floor in one corner) in order to create more of a Scottsdale feel.
Speaking of which, notorious Scottsdale-based gossip blogger Nik Richie of The Dirty also staged an appearance at the club with his crew in early 2009 to celebrate the launch of a section of his infamous website devoted to the West Valley.
Hurricane Bay was also in the news earlier this year when an off-duty Phoenix Police officer working security at the club shot at two individuals, killing one and seriously injuring another, who were attempting to break into his truck outside a couple hours after last call.
