It was a sad day for fans of denim basics and comfy khakis when Gap closed at Scottsdale Fashion Square in October 2020.

But we're back, baby: Gap has returned to the mall and is open for business as of Jan. 31.

The newly reopened store, which longtime shoppers will recognize as Gap's former home at Scottsdale Fashion Square, is located on the south wing’s second floor. (The south wing is the one anchored by Nordstrom.)

“We’re proud to offer shoppers an exclusive experience when they visit Scottsdale Fashion Square, whether they’re in the market for luxury products or updating their wardrobe staples with a classic trusted brand like Gap,” David Hyatt, general manager for mall owner Macerich, said in a press release. “With this reopening, we’re maintaining that commitment by giving shoppers access to the only retail Gap store in the Phoenix metro.”

The closure of the store in 2020 was part of a "store fleet transformation" the company underwent for financial reasons, according to its corporate website; more than 350 Gap and Banana Republic stores around the country shut their doors.

In 2025, a whirl through the website shows that Gap is still leaning heavily into the basics (and the denim); options for men, women and children feature simple silhouettes and muted colors. Jeans for men and women run between $50 and $100, although many items are discounted.

The new Scottsdale Fashion Square location may be Gap's only Arizona retail location, but its outlet stores are easy to find around the Valley.

Gap Factory locations are:

  • Phoenix Premium Outlets, 4976 Premium Outlets Way, #610, Chandler
  • Westgate Tanger Outlets, 6800 N. 95th Ave., #600, Glendale
  • Outlets North Phoenix, 4250 W. Anthem Way, #385
  • Arizona Mills, 5000 S. Arizona Mills Circle, #274, Tempe

There is also a Gap Factory Store at the Tucson Premium Outlets.

Banana Republic seems to be faring better in the Valley. It has six Valley locations: three retail stores at Town & Country in Phoenix, San Tan Village in Gilbert and Kierland Commons in Scottsdale, and three outlet stores at Phoenix Premium Outlets, Westgate Tanger Outlets and Outlets North Phoenix.
