Dumpling fans have been patiently waiting for Din Tai Fung’s arrival in the Valley for years. Scottsdale Fashion Square initially confirmed the impending arrival of the Taiwan-based chain in August 2024.

But now, the company has shared a target opening date of April 2026.

Din Tai Fung is famous for its handmade dumplings which span soup-filled Xiao Long Bao to shao mai, fluffy buns, wontons in chile oil and even chocolate-filled dessert dumplings. The restaurant also serves noodles, soups and wok fried dishes along with milk teas and cocktails. The international chain has locations across the globe, with U.S. restaurants in California, Nevada, New York, Oregon and Washington.

In Scottsdale, the new restaurant will take up a 10,000-square-foot space on the ground level of the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall, with seating for 340 customers. According to a press release from the company, the new restaurant is about 90% complete. The interiors will feature a “neutral palette” with gold, cream and warm wood tones, thanks to design firm Rockwell Group.

The restaurant will feature a window into the dumpling kitchen, a signature spot at each Din Tai Fung location where customers can watch talented cooks carefully fold perfect dumplings.

Through a screened entryway, there will be a bar featuring lantern-like light fixtures, amber tiles and gold, mirrored back bar. In the center of the dining room, a tree installation will rise above banquette seating outfitted with leather and golden velvet.

While we’ve all been patiently waiting for the new Scottsdale restaurant to open, the company shared plans for its second Arizona location. Chandler Fashion Center is undergoing a renovation, which will include the Phoenix metro area’s second Din Tai Fung. That restaurant is set to open in 2027.
