Heading to Chase Field to catch a ballgame? Or maybe you’re making your way downtown to sing your heart out at a concert at Mortgage Matchup Center. Either way, there are plenty of great spots to grab a bite to eat before the game or after the show.

Downtown Phoenix offers something for everyone. Head to the rooftop of the historic Hilton Garden Inn to take in the skyline outlined by a perfect Arizona sunset. Or make your way underground to cool off with a refreshing drink and some live music.

Downtown has sports bars packed with screens, breweries boasting creative craft beers and cocktail bars aplenty, ready to help you drown your sorrows if the Diamondbacks lose, or keep the fun going if they take the win.

Here’s where to eat and drink in downtown Phoenix the next time an event draws you into the heart of the city.

Embrace the flavors of Cuba at this downtown Phoenix cocktail bar. Coabana’s colorful, welcoming atmosphere invites customers to sip on a tropical-tasting drink among soft pink tiles, with gold palm leaves overhead. The small but tasty food menu features shareable tapas, including ceviche, tostones and sweet-and-savory empanadas.

Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers

It’s hard to get closer to the game time action than at Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers’ downtown Phoenix location. While not a concession stand, the restaurant is actually inside Chase Field. However, fans can access it from outside – no ticket needed. A low wall separates restaurant tables from stadium seating, with large, open windows for customers to watch the action on the field. If you’re running short on time and want to make sure you don’t miss first pitch, this is a great spot to grab a meal. On game days, the restaurant offers a slightly streamlined yet still stacked menu of burgers, pretzels, nachos, hot dogs, sandwiches, wings and a wide selection of beer.

Cornish Pasty Co.

If you get inspired to channel your competitive side at the game, challenge your friends to a round of pool at Cornish Pasty Co. Not only can you keep the game fun going, but you can also do so with a beer or cocktail in hand. Pick a pew at one of the upstairs tables and peruse this Valley classic’s huge menu of stuffed and folded pasties filled with everything from lamb and mint to cheese and chicken. Finish the night on a sweet note with a slab of sticky toffee pudding or banoffee pie.

Why wait until you’re inside the stadium to enjoy a loaded hot dog? Get messy at Dog Haus Biergarten with their large selection of different franks topped with everything from smoked bacon and caramelized onions to avocado and tomato or pastrami and mozzarella. They are served on fluffy King’s Hawaiian rolls and are perfect for pairing with a cold beer or soda. Not in the mood for a hot dog? Dog Haus also serves sliders, burgers, wings and chicken sandwiches.

So, if you’re looking to get above the crowds, head up the elevator at the Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix Downtown hotel to Floor 13. Here, you can take in views of the whole city, including a look at Chase Field’s retractable roof, and enjoy a classic Arizona sunset. The food menu is designed for sharing and offers dishes for a wide range of tastes. Nibble on twice-baked potato skins or fill up on a plate of chicken and waffles. Wash it all down with one of Floor 13’s skillfully crafted cocktails.

Hanny’s

This unique downtown destination is housed in a historic department store and is half casual eatery and half classy cocktail bar. Shareable pizzas and giant plates of fluffy yet crispy sidewinder fries make Hanny’s a go-to spot for a meal shared between friends. The strong cocktails don’t hurt either. If you want to grab a bite after the game, Hanny’s bar and kitchen stay open late.

Huss Brewing Co.

225 E. Monroe St.
Huss Brewing Co.’s headquarters are in Tempe. But downtown, fans have another option to get a taste of their iconic Arizona beer. Located at the Phoenix Convention Center, this brewpub serves refreshing pints of Scottsdale Blonde and Papago Orange Blossom, along with a satisfying food menu. Try the Midwest-style fish and chips or the Greek chicken wrap, or share some crispy Cajun shrimp and a pretzel board. TV screens hang throughout the space so you won’t miss a second of the buildup.

Head to the counter to place your order and then find a table on either floor of Ingo’s Tasty Food in downtown Phoenix. This multi-level restaurant specializes in fresh salads, sandwiches and burgers. Make sure to add an order of homemade Shattered Potato Chips, which are thick-cut and come with creamy lebni and hot salsa to dip. Ingo’s is an all-day concept, and serves a full coffee bar menu along with cocktails, beer and wine.

If you’re contemplating staying downtown overnight after the game, the Residence Inn by Marriott hotel comes complete with a world-class cocktail bar. Luckily, Little Rituals also welcomes the public to grab an expertly crafted cocktail. Snag a table by the window and relive the game or show with a great view of the stadiums just below. The drinks menu is vast, with options ranging from classic to tiki, to modern, to completely unique. Knowledgeable bartenders can help point you in the right direction, and if you’re hungry after the game, snack on brisket-topped fries or Sonoran hot dogs from the surprisingly stacked food menu.

Maybe your favorite player has a great game, or maybe they miss that all-important play. Either way, it will feel good to dance it out. At Valley Bar, live music and DJs, strong yet flavorful cocktails, and a scavenger hunt to find the place complete your downtown Phoenix experience. This bar is located just a few blocks from the stadium, around the back of Cornish Pasty. Enter from the alleyway on Monroe Street and look for a neon red sign. Show the bouncer your ID and head downstairs for an evening of celebration.
