Lunch under ten bucks and the opportunity to run into the likes of ABC 15 news stars like anchor Steve Irvin, meteorologist Amber Sullins, or sports anchor Jeff Heisner? IMAGINE! You could talk about Anchorman for hours, or suddenly shout, “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!” while everyone laughs, and laughs, and laughs, and laughs, and laughs, and laughs.
This could happen (or not) at The Lunch Lounge Deli & Cafe, the small, hidden eatery at 501 North 44th Street, serving hotel guests, business folks, and, neighboring newsies from the ABC Channel 15 headquarters across the street.
Open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, The Lunch Lounge, along with a few breakfast items, boasts salads, soups, and signature and your-way sandwiches made with Boar’s Head freshly sliced meat. What to order if you’re planning to pop in? Let’s find out.
While plenty of folks diggin’ on the salads (which did look tasty), I opted for a signature sandwich called The Italian Lover. A nod to the birthplace of the Italian Hoagie, this grinder’s made with ham, capicolla, Genoa salami, proscuittini, provolone, pepperoncini, pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion, extra virgin olive oil, and Italian seasoning on a soft sub roll. With decent ingredients and a wonderful mix of flavors, this two-handed grinder satisfied.

The Southwest chipotle chicken panini, made with grilled chicken breast, bacon, pepper Jack cheese, tomato, and chipotle mayo on sourdough bread also fared well for its cheesy and chipotle flavor.
The salads are all six dollars and the sandwiches eight. Order them with a side (skip the potato salad and the pasta salad) and a drink for another two bucks.
And whatever you do, don’t ask to change the channel on the television. It’s ABC 15 or bust, baby.
