For the second year in a row, Arizona’s favorite candy remains the same. And it remains an odd choice. It’s not a satisfying chocolate bar. Nor is it a nostalgic treat enjoyed for generations. It’s not something that will make you feel warm and fuzzy. Instead, it’s designed to make you pucker.
Ahead of Halloween, Innerbody Labs conducted a study, analyzing Google search results to determine each state’s most loved treats.
Apparently, the Grand Canyon State goes crazy for Sour Punch Straws. The colorful treats come in traditional fruit flavors, including apple, watermelon and grape, along with more confusing options such as rainbow (which just tastes like sugar) and blue raspberry (there is no such thing). Wacky flavors that are more of a trick than a treat include Pickle Roulette, Ghost Pepper Roulette and Scorchin’ Straws.
And according to the study, Arizona isn’t the only Sour Punch Straws fanatic. The candy is a favorite in California, Louisiana and Texas as well.

The national favorite, flavored by 13 states, is Starburst. Sour Patch Kids come in second, being the most popular in eight states. Reese’s and Skittles compete with Sour Punch Straws, and are the most popular candy in four states each.
Finishing off the top 10 are Swedish Fish (3 states), Twix (3 states), Blow Pops (2 states) and Life Savers (2 states).
On the other end of the candy craze are the nation’s most hated: Hot Tamales.
