We love to swing by Karl’s Quality Bakery: fresh bread for the weekend, quiche for lunch, a napoleon or streusel to take to a friend, and always a cookie or two before we leave the premises. This weekend we are adding Karl’s to our list of stops for another reason.

Saturday, Oct 30 at 3:00 pm, Karl’s will host an Oktoberfest featuring house made bratwurst and sauerkraut along with the bakeries’ treats. And there is more to celebrate!

This Oktoberfest kicks off the (shhhhh!) quiet grand opening of Christine Boerner‘s new chocolate and pastry café adjoining the Sunnyslope bakery. The Baker’s Daughter is the kind of sweet place we’ve been yearning for.

Perfect name, given she’s Karl’s kid.

Christina trained with Swiss Pastry Chef Oliver Hofmann in Reconvilier Switzerland, bringing together her father’s lessons with classic training from the Hofmann family’s 125-year-old boulangerie-patesserie.

The Baker’s Daughter menu features truffles, bars, ballotine and gateaux. We couldn’t resist a preview taste of a truffle or two, and the Troi Frère: caramelized hazelnuts on a milk hazelnut gianduja, has us counting the minutes to opening day.
