Ramen lovers, rejoice. As of this month, you have a new destination for bowls of noodles and porcine-flavored broth. Welcome Chicken + Donuts, the second restaurant from the Welcome Diner crew, now serves two types of ramen from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
The restaurant offers both pork and vegan ramen. That’s right: Even non-animal-eating diners can get in on the action. The tonkotsu ramen ($14) includes pork, corn, scallions, nori, kimchee, fish cake, and a marinated egg, while the vegan ramen ($12) includes braised jackfruit, mushrooms, corn, nori, carrot, and scallion with the option to add a marinated egg for $2.
When Welcome Chicken + Donuts opened in early 2015, the restaurant’s menu essentially started and stopped with fried chicken and handmade doughnuts. Since then, the spot’s regularly offered special items, including breakfast sandwiches, chicken salad, and ramen on weekends.
Welcome Chicken + Donuts also started serving its breakfast sandwiches — including the South by Southwest, which includes sausage or fried bacon, egg, cheddar cheese, jalapeño relish, and Thai yum sauce between a sliced fried doughnut — earlier this year.
