The Chill Room

For the past two years, this pretense-free strip-mall gathering spot has been serving an alcohol-free menu and a packed slate of community-led events five minutes from the Arizona State University campus. The trappings of a big night out are here: flatscreens turned to the NFL, weekly karaoke that people sing stone-sober, open mics, board games, trivia nights, pumpkin carving nights, a pool table, puffy couches to flomp into — just super wholesome stuff all around. You might mistake the Chill Room for an indie coffee shop were it not for a drinks menu that does aim to get you a lil buzz on, sans alcohol. You can get kratom teas with CBD or kava boosts, decaf tea-based cocktails, herbal mocktails, CBD wine, NA beers, coffees, sodas and waters. When you’re ready for a more conspiratorial atmosphere than the spacious main room offers, a couple of side rooms — one of which has a photo booth — let you gossip in privacy. The family-owned establishment also employs the Valley’s most charming door detail: a highly pettable pillow of a dog named Logan, who wears a black SECURITY shirt to work.
