Anton Mackey, What Are You Listening To?

Anton Mackey

Mackey is a yoga teacher at LifePower Yoga and Summit North Scottsdale and a fitness trainer at FITLIFE Scottsdale.

What songs are you vibing on these days? "Hold You," by Gyptian (Major Lazer remix); "I Wanna," by Sahara & Bob Sinclair (featuring Shaggy); "One by One," by Laza Morgan (featuring Mavado); "Get Live," by Strange Fruit Project (featuring Erykah Badu); "Hard to Concentrate," by Red Hot Chili Peppers; "In the Sun," by Donna DeLory;  New Thievery, anything from The XX, The Black Keys, Jack Johnson, or Ray Lamontagne.

When you put your key in the ignition and turn on the radio, what station would play right now? I listen to Pandora, tuned to The Black Keys!

What's the last song played on your portal music player? My iPod is playing "I Wanna" by Sahara and Bob Sinclair (featuring Shaggy).

What's the first record you bought? The first album I bought was the Footloose soundtrack (still a fave today).

What's the first concert you saw? My first concert was Stone Temple Pilots and The Smashing Pumpkins at a waterpark!

What's your favorite concert you've ever been to? The best concert I have ever seen...tough one, probably The Black Keys two years ago at the Marquee.

Preferred format: CD, vinyl, cassette, 8-Track or digital? I love cassettes--brings me back to the "mix tape" days.

What's your favorite CD? My favorite CD is Van Morrison's Still on Top: The Greatest Hits. Such great memories.

Who is your favorite singer or band? My favorite band/singer is The Black Keys and Van Morrison. I love bluesy and folk sounds.

What's your most played song? The most played song on any format has to be "Hold You" by Gyptian (Major Lazer remix). I use it in every yoga class I teach!

What was your favorite new or new-to-you album from 2010? My favorite new album of 2010 is xx by The xx.

What one song would you play if you had a world-wide audience? I would play "Hold You" by Gyptian (Major Lazer remix) to the whole world while everyone does yoga! It's become my soundtrack!

Who is your favorite local band? My favorite local band is Kongos, a group of brothers who put out some esoteric sounds -- very creative and unique.
