Hondo Rodeo Fest is less than a month away. Chase Field will turn into a massive zone for rodeo action and live music from November 7 to 9. Cody Johnson was the Saturday night headliner until recently he had to dip due to a ruptured eardrum.
Kid Rock is stepping in to fill the slot. It’s also rumored that he will be headlining Turning Point USA’s “American Patriot Super Bowl Halftime Show,” the program created in response to the Trump administration’s opposition to Puerto Rican performer Bad Bunny’s upcoming 2026 Super Bowl Halftime appearance. Rock is definitely on deck for Hondo Rodeo Fest, and some folks online are feeling less than excited about it.
In a Reddit thread titled ‘What a downgrade good lord,’ users had a lot to say about him taking Johnson’s spot, and, at least in this thread, the consensus was disappointment.
General insults ranged from barbs like:
We’re thankful for you. Are you thankful for us?
We feel thankful for our staff and for the privilege of fulfilling our mission to be an unparalleled source of information and insight in Phoenix. We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community.
Help us continue giving back to Phoenix.
‘Cosplay cowboy, blublocker wearing trust fund baby’ (To be fair, someone did come to the defense of blublockers, asking people to ‘leave (those sunglasses) alone.’
‘Don’t let Kid Rock being a terrible musician distract you from the fact that he’s a piece of shit’
‘I ain’t paying to see this Kid shit’
‘What? Was Ted Nugent not available?’
‘The ultimate chameleon’
Where the comments got more specific were the callouts about his 2001 song “Osmosis Jones.” The lyrics in the song include the lines “Young ladies, young ladies, I like ‘em underage, see/Some say that’s statutory (But I say it’s mandatory”
The song may be nearly a quarter of a century old but they’re on top of the minds of the commenters in this post:
‘Pretty sure from his osmosis jones song lyrics he might be on the epstein list’
‘This came out in 2001, meaning he was 30 at the time’
‘Oops! Keep your teenage daughters away.’
It wasn’t a total Kid Rock disgust fest; a few folks had his back:
‘I don’t like his politics but I kinda like some of his music’
‘Reddit is hilarious. Y’all know Cody Johnson voted for Trump as well right?’
‘This subreddit is a leftist cesspool. I mean Reddit is for the most part anyways but yeah this sub is pretty ass.’
Unless another schedule change occurs, it looks like the Michigan-born rapper is in the mix despite the mixed feelings. Visit the event site for tickets and all the details.
