As Tempe self-described desert reggae rock n' roll group The VeraGroove gears up for their Travlin' Man EP release show Saturday, December 4 at Marquee Theatre, the guys graciously decided to share an exclusive track from the EP with Up on the Sun readers before anyone can get their hands on it. It's an acoustic jam called "Hand in Hand," and keyboardist Sean Lee explains the song:
"'Hand in Hand' was inspired by a personal struggle, one which involved a love that could have existed between two friends but never happened because of the fear that the existing friendship would be ruined. The emotional root of the song is based in regret, lost opportunity, frustration with indifference, the reality of consequence and ultimately the movement away from these emotions. I hope the listener is able to both experience and relate to this type of situation. as well as understand that love is an opportunity that shouldn't be wasted. As a sidenote, I like to leave the meaning of the song generally open to interpretation."
Check out more of what Lee's talking about in the lyrics, and listen to the song below (plus see an acoustic performance of their track, "Mind, Body and Soul".)
"Hand in Hand"
She waited for so long for someone new
So tired of it all, tired of the blues
I couldn't find the time, couldn't find the place
Now I drive alone, too much time to waste
She woke up when the moment had come to pass
She chose to be strong, found her peace at last
I wallowed in my pride 'til it all fell through,
All I ever wanted was to be with you
Oh, let's take a ride
Let's take a ride
Drive along till her love is gone
and I can move again
There's not a shadow I can't see
Gonna ride with a cigarette
Oh, we're hand-in-hand
This is her freedom, her country
I could've had it all, shoulda made up my mind
Now when I see her face
She just turns aside
She's walking with another, oh, somebody new
So tired of it all, tired of the fool
I woke up with her love a glimpse of the past
Silent in my thoughts,
Thought that we would last
She always told me one that that just wasn't true,
She's gonna find me one day, one day
Oh, let's take a ride
Let's take a ride
Drive along 'til her love is gone
and I can move again
There's not a shadow I can't see
Gonna ride with a cigarette
Oh, we're hand in hand
This is her freedom, her country
