The last two summers, Phoenix residents have endured the two hottest months of July on record. But as the end of the month approaches in 2025, temperatures have been significantly cooler than residents have come to expect.

Instead of long stretches of temperatures well above 110 degrees, Phoenix weather has been closer to the “status quo,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Tom Frieders. “It’ll still be hot next week,” Frieders told Phoenix New Times. “But it’s not going to be comparable to the last two years that we saw those record levels.”

As of Wednesday, the average temperature this month is 97 degrees, well short of the triple-digit averages for July the last two years. However, as residents look toward August, temperatures are expected to “warm to back above normal by the time we get into this weekend and early next week,” Frieders said.

On Sunday and Monday, temperatures will rise to around 110 degrees. A monsoon is also expected early next week, causing temperatures to drop slightly, but Phoenix will still be in the 105-110-degree range, which is “pretty close to normal for this time of year,” Frieders said.
