Complimentary Wedding Cake at Los Sombreros
The woman behind the sombrero, Azucena Tovar, is celebrating her recent nuptials this Saturday with her loyal restaurant patrons. Tovar, the chef and owner of Los Sombreros, tied the knot in San Miguel de Allande, Mexico, and is kissing single life goodbye by giving away wedding cake. Slices will be served to all customers starting at 4 p.m. and probably won't last through dinner service. Get there early to ensure you get some free cake, and while you're there, take advantage of this month's specials, including $5 sangria and mango martinis and $5 salads like watermelon and panela cheese.
Pumpkin Porter from Four Peaks
Fall has (technically) started, and with it comes pumpkin sweets, seasonal treats, and -- the adult way to get into the pumpkin patch -- beer. The Valley's most popular pumpkin ale premiered this past Monday. Chances are this pumpkin porter will be gone before Thanksgiving, so you'd better stop by the Four Peaks Brewery to grab a growler before it runs out. The pie crust-flavored brew is available on draft at bars around town, but we recommend heading straight to the source in Tempe.
Pipe up at the Recipes for Living Discussion at Pomegranate Café
Weekends are usually reserved for relaxing, wasting time, and staying up late for no good reason. Why not change it up and participate in an educational discussion this Saturday night, especially since it gives you a good excuse to visit Pomegranate Café? From 6 to 8 p.m., this Ahwatukee favorite (which we just named as the Best Vegan Restaurant in town) will be hosting a discussion with poet and English professor Alberto Rios, urban farmer Maya Dailey, master gardener Bob Ross, and artist Rebecca Ross. The topic: How do we sustain our language, culture, memories, and food? Talk about and think about food while enjoying a rainbow wrap or, better yet, a slice of pomegranate chocolate cake.
30 Restaurants + Cocktails at the Best of Phoenix A'fare
It's that time of year again. New Times' biggest Best Of issue is now available, and you're all invited to celebrate the winners. To go along with this year's science theme, the Best of Phoenix A'fare will take place at the Arizona Science Center. Starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, partygoers will have access to all four floors of the building, including hundreds of hands-on exhibits. Don't pass up this unique opportunity to get your science on while wearing your best cocktail attire. There will also be plenty of adult beverages as well as food from 30 Valley restaurants, including Petite Maison, Stacy's Pit Stop BBQ, and Mamma Toledo's Pie Truck. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door.
Chandler's Best Eats at TASTE.
Given the grand scope of the Phoenix metro area, it's no wonder that residents tend to stay in their own part of town. If you've been waiting for the perfect opportunity to check out Chandler, this Saturday is it. The city's culinary festival, TASTE., is taking place downtown from 5 to 10 p.m. Over 30 local restaurants will be participating, including Superstition Farm, SanTan Brewing Company, Paletas Betty, Shimogamo, and The Hungry Monk. There will also be beer and wine classes and a Mix & Mingle lounge featuring mixology classes, a DJ, and a spirit fusion bar. Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite restaurants, with one overall winner and nine category champs. The event is 21+. Tickets are $35.
