Carry On, the highly anticipated immersive cocktail lounge that harkens back to the golden age of air travel, has been cleared for take-off. The “Mad Men” era plane-themed bar will welcome its first guests aboard its faux fuselage on Friday.

“Mark your calendars, clear your runways, and prepare for take off… this is going to be the only flight you wish lasted longer,” a social media announcement said.

The bar is the brainchild of Pretty Decent Concepts, the hospitality group behind Wren & Wolf, Trophy Room and Chico Malo. Anticipation for the immersive experience has built as the bar’s opening date has been pushed back several times since last year. But Pretty Decent Concepts has been busy in the meantime, announcing three concepts in the works at the Arizona Center, a forthcoming restaurant in Tempe and debuting a downtown doughnut and coffee shop.

In August, the hospitality group announced it tapped cocktail industry heavy-hitter Jax Donahue as its beverage director. Donahue has worked at notable bars and restaurants around the Valley, most recently as beverage director for Barter & Shake Cocktail Entertainment, the team behind Platform 18, UnderTow, Grey Hen Rx and Sunny’s Lounge.

Donahue told Phoenix New Times that the 20 cocktails for Carry On’s first “flight path” from San Francisco to Mexico City will be modern takes on retro cocktails from the same era the plane experience is inspired.

Rather than reservations, customers can sign up to get "tickets" for the plane-themed experience. Opening night is sold out, but hopeful travelers can sign up for Carry On's email list on the bar's website.

“We look forward to having you aboard soon,” the post said.
