A locally grown cookie dough bar has closed its shops across the Valley. The owners of Scoopwell’s Dough Bar announced “with heavy hearts” on Friday that they have closed all of its locations, “effective immediately,” via an Instagram post.

“We want to thank everyone who walked through the doors over the last six and a half years; without you, we wouldn't have had a business to begin with,” the post said, in part.

Scoopwell’s had locations in Phoenix’s Uptown Plaza on the northeast corner of Central Avenue and Camelback Road, and in downtown Gilbert, off of Vaughn Avenue and Gilbert Road. The edible cookie dough bar also operated an outpost inside Chase Field in downtown Phoenix. That has likewise closed.

The cookie dough parlor was founded by John and Kendra Scheer in 2018, launching at Tempe Public Market before opening in Uptown Plaza in 2019. The downtown Gilbert location followed in 2022.

Scoopwell's offered edible cookie dough served in cups and cones, baked cookies and ice cream sandwiches in vibrant ice cream parlor-esque settings. Scoopwell's cookie dough could be eaten unbaked thanks to heat-treated flour and pasteurized eggs. Those two processes eliminate any "potentially harmful bacteria so all the doughs are safe to enjoy without baking," according to the FAQs on the dough bar's website.

Dough flavors rotated regularly, but have previously included brownie batter, rainbow sprinkle and lemon poppyseed. Customers could also order "naked dough," and select their own mix-ins and toppings.

At Uptown Plaza over the weekend, a note with the same wording as the social media announcement hung in the window of one of the shop's bright mint-colored doors.

“We also want to thank each and every team member that played a critical role in making each customer's experience a memorable one,” the note said. “Last but not least, we want to thank the many family and friends that have supported us throughout this journey. We will forever be filled with gratitude.”
