Those anxiously awaiting the arrival of the award-winning international soup dumpling restaurant Din Tai Fung will have to hold on for another year.

In August, it was confirmed that the Taiwan-born Chinese restaurant would enter Arizona as one of several new eateries debuting in the redeveloped south wing of Scottsdale Fashion Square. The news was leaked during an earnings call with Macerich, the company that owns the mall.

The earnings call reportedly noted that Din Tai Fung was expected to make its Scottsdale debut in early 2025. But at the time, a spokesperson for the restaurant said the timeframe "was not confirmed with Din Tai Fung before it was shared."

Since then, Din Tai Fung has been tight-lipped on when the 10,000-square-foot Scottsdale outpost may open, with its website simply noting it would be "steaming soon" in Arizona.

Now, the company has clarified the timeline, explaining that fans will have to wait until 2026 to enjoy soup dumplings at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

“Bringing Din Tai Fung to Arizona is a significant milestone for our family, driven by the region’s vibrant culinary landscape,” Co-CEO Aaron Yang said in a statement provided to Phoenix New Times.

Din Tai Fung was founded in Taiwan in 1958 as a cooking oil business and transformed into a restaurant in 1972. Today, it boasts more than 160 restaurants spanning 13 countries, with its nearest outposts in Las Vegas and southern California. Din Tai Fung’s Hong Kong location has received a highly coveted Michelin star five times.

While there are many restaurants we’re looking forward to savoring in 2025, including mall neighbor Catch, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to try Din Tai Fung's dumplings, noodles and buns.

“We’re thrilled to share our authentic Taiwanese flavors and traditions with a community that not only embraces global flavors and unique dining experiences but is also seeing a growing Asian population that enriches the cultural fabric of the greater Phoenix area,” Yang said. “The dynamic energy of Scottsdale aligns seamlessly with our mission of fostering connections through food, tradition and shared moments.”
