Sweet Republic, the popular local ice cream maker with three locations around the Valley, has added a fourth scoop shop to its repertoire. On March 7, its newest location opened in Old Town Scottsdale.
The new shop, located on Scottsdale Road just south of Second Street, offers Sweet Republic's rotating selection of hand-crafted flavors. And on March 22, customers visiting from noon to 3 p.m. can snag a free scoop.
"We are very excited that we found this location in Old Town Scottsdale," co-founder Helen Yung said in a news release. “This free scoop giveaway is our way of saying thank you for allowing us to sprinkle a little ice cream magic for customers, new and old."
Sweet Republic first introduced Valley customers to its creative ice creams 16 years ago. Yung and Jan Wichayanuparp opened their first store off Shea Boulevard in northeast Scottsdale before expanding to Phoenix and Tempe. Over the years, the duo's artisan flavors have made Sweet Republic a favorite and the shop has earned local and national recognition.
Along with its scoops, the shop is popular for its sundaes, such as the Pecan Turtle made with Arizona pecans, hot fudge and salted caramel sauce and the Campfire S'mores sundae, topped with a roasted marshmallow and served in a waffle cone bowl.
Sweet Republic often partners with other local restaurants and food businesses for its creative desserts. The marshmallows are made in house, the coffee comes from Valley roasters, and unique one-off flavors — such as the Jelly Donut made with treats from The Local Donut — show off local collaborations.
The new Scottsdale shop continues to celebrate Arizona pride, with a new mural displaying scenes of the desert. Tourists and locals alike can soak in some sunshine and then cool off with a sweet scoop at the new Old Town shop.
