A recent study named Phoenix the no. 16 pizza city in the country.

The study, conducted by Clever Real Estate, took into account things like the price of a cheese or pepperoni pie, the number of pizzerias per 100,000 residents and the average Yelp rating. But it also leaned on some odd qualifiers like each city's "pizza passion score" and "perceived pizza quality."

The winner, named the best pizza city in the entire nation, gave us some pause. It's Rochester, New York, apparently. New York City, on the other hand, came in at no. 8.

So, we asked readers, does no. 16 feel right for Phoenix? Should we have scored higher? Phoenix does have some stellar pizzerias, but you have to know where to look in our giant sprawl. So, does that mean we should have scored lower? Either way, readers had thoughts.

On Instagram, Grand Canyon Kid shared their Arizona pride:
Top 5
Eveselonkeart offered some self-aware insight on whether we should be higher on the list:
My favorite pizza in Phx is Oreganos so, no
Local pro chef_rasco shared some personal experience:
The problem is, in my opinion, that so many places are doing the same things, recipe mimics, or close to the same recipes, the same styles, hard to find true authenticity or originality, unique in taste, etc. I can go to 5 pizza spots in AZ in one day and feel like they are all kind of the same.
On Facebook, Dean shared their opinion:
Most pizzerias in AZ are not good. I can think of 2 or 3 that at GREAT and the rest are average at best. I can tell you who is using what flour and tomatoes just by 1 taste and a look at it.
Margaret offered some recommendations:
Salerno's on Guadalupe and Recker is great. They are from the Chicago area. Milano's on McKellips near Greenfield has wonderful white pizza.
Ryan offered:
We need midwest people in charge of bar food now ty
Jimmy felt like no. 16 was too high:
AZ pizza is awful for the most part
And Jefferson agreed with our own reaction:
Head scratching is correct...
