A 29-year-old charter school teacher in Gilbert had sex with a student, according to police.

Andrew "A.J." Teaters, a sixth-grade teacher at the school, Gilbert Early College, admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old student at the school in his classroom, according to court documents obtained by New Times.

According to the documents, Gilbert police got an anonymous tip about the relationship earlier this week, and the girl told police she willingly had a sexual relationship with Teaters.

She told police they started flirting at the school, then flirted on Twitter, and that all escalated to their having sex in his classroom.

The girl's father was recorded on a confrontation phone call to Teaters, who admitted the relationship, according to court documents.

Teaters was arrested Thursday afternoon at his home in Mesa (where he lives with his wife and kids).

Teaters, who worked at that school for five years, was still forthcoming with his admissions to police when they interviewed him, according to the documents. He was booked on three counts of sexual conduct with a minor, and one count of sexual abuse.

In two recent examples of male Valley teachers having sex with 17-year-old students, former Paradise Valley High School teacher Jordan Doneskey, who was 26 at the time of his relationship with a student last year, has since been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison.

Another, Brian Bizzell -- a former band teacher at Estrella Foothills High School in Goodyear -- was sentenced in August to a year in jail for his relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Both of those men earned "sex offender" titles.
