Chandler police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy found dead in his mother's car outside of his home this afternoon.

Because the deceased in this case is not of the canine variety, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office decided to sit this one out.

Chandler police Detective David Ramer tells New Times that the boy's 24-year-old mother was inside her home at 2253 West Boston Street in Chandler when she couldn't find her son.

Carpenter searched the house and checked with neighbors but couldn't find the boy and called police.

Police responded and found the boy unresponsive in the front seat of the family car in the driveway of the house.

The boy was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Ramer says it appears the boy let himself into the car, but police are investigating the incident.
