Folks who love their pop-culture decor with a side of fries got bad news this month when ComicX, the theme restaurant at Desert Ridge Marketplace, announced its Feb. 23 closure.
Now that the restaurant has shuttered, local company Business Liquidations is handling an auction of the restaurant's stuff, including kitchen equipment, furniture, dishes, televisions and, far more interesting to us, the huge assortment of movie, TV and comic book-themed decor.
Some of the items are already pretty pricey: A 98-inch-tall statue of The Hulk has 72 bids and is currently sitting at $1,175; a 77-inch-tall Iron Man figure is right behind it at $1,075 and 91 bids.
But not everything comes with a four-figure price tag (at the moment). Bidding on a 92-inch-tall statue of Thor from "The Avengers is under $450, and a three-foot R2-D2 is currently sitting at $320.
If you're just looking for something small to remember ComicX by, a Peter Venkman action figure from "Ghostbusters" is up to $12.50 and a piece of wall art featuring Heath Ledger as The Joker is only $5.
Online bidding is ongoing; an in-person auction preview will be held on Monday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bidding will close between noon and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4 (see individual items for exact closing times). Winning bidders can pick up their items Wednesday and Thursday, March 5 and 6, at the restaurant, 21001 N. Tatum Blvd., #95.
ComicX opened in December 2019. It announced its closure on Feb. 8. A social media post read, in part: “After years of serving amazing food, sharing unforgettable moments, and building a community of incredible fans, ComicX Phoenix will be closing its doors for the last time on Sunday, February 23rd. We can’t thank you enough for your support, your laughter, and the countless memories we’ve created together. From family dinners to birthday celebrations, from casual visits to epic nights out — you’ve made ComicX a truly special place, and we are forever grateful.”
