Filmmaker, podcaster and geek icon Kevin Smith is set to appear with actor Jason Mewes at the 2025 edition of the annual pop-culture and comic con, which runs from Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8 at the Phoenix Convention Center.
The duo — best known for portraying goofball drug dealers Jay and Silent Bob in "Clerks," "Mallrats" and other films Smith’s interconnected View Askewniverse — are scheduled to appear at Fan Fusion on Saturday, June 7, according to con organizers Square Egg Entertainment.
Snooch to the motherfucking nooch.
Smith and Mewes are among the first special guests to be announced for Phoenix Fan Fusion 2025. More names are expected to be revealed by Square Egg later this month, including celebrities, voice actors and comic book creators.
Guests at last year’s Phoenix Fan Fusion included Michael Rooker, Simu Liu, Adam Savage, Dick Van Dyke, Grey DeLisle, Dante Basco and Dee Bradley Baker.
‘[Phoenix] has always been very welcoming to us’
It will be the first-ever appearance at Fan Fusion by Smith and Mewes, but it is far from their first visit to the metro Phoenix area. Smith has brought various projects to the Valley over the past 25 years. He's test-screened his films at local cinemas, staged his "An Evening with Kevin Smith" Q&A tour at local venues and recorded episodes of his various podcasts at Tempe Improv and other local comedy clubs.
He’s even sold burgers to local Askewniverse fans. During the pandemic in 2021, Smith brought a pop-up version of Mooby’s — the fictional fast-food chain seen in “Dogma,” “Clerks II” and his other films — to The Van Buren in downtown Phoenix.
Mewes is also no stranger to metro Phoenix. In addition to appearances with Smith, he’s performed stand-up at local spots and filmed the 2007 horror-comedy indie flick “Netherbeast Incorporated” in the Valley.
Smith told Phoenix New Times in 2021 that his frequent visits were primarily because the Valley’s “proximity to California makes it ideal.” Phoenix’s role as the setting for the ‘80s sitcom “Alice” might have had something to do with it, too.
“(Phoenix) has always been very welcoming to us,” Smith told New Times. “Number one, it's a cute place, looks cool. And as a big fan of ‘Alice’ growing up, I was very familiar with Arizona before I actually got to step into the state.”
